Storm's first time out w/ the Oregon Symphony
Storm Large, a rock and roll gal, doing a Valentine's show with violins and cellos? What can I say, she took control and blew that crowd away. The Ella Langley is a pretty good one, so you know you've got quality coming w/ the instrumentation... Her rendition of "I've Got You Under My Skin" (arranged by James Beaton) will be the talk of the town today. Storm's way with the crowd and self-referential humor were genuine and entertaining. But boy does she give great stage! And all well sung, some with a dark twist, and some fairly standard standards, she crooned several. The show was also spekled with a variety of Portland music notables (Holcomb Waller, China Forbes, and Jenny Conlee & Nate Query of the Decemberists) to give the show that real feeling of support for Storm in her first symphonic adventure. She was comfortable (for the most part, she did loose lyrics in a couple songs, including the finale - but it was more charming than anything. It was quite evident she was emotional about the experience.) and really proved that her range goes well beyond "rocker girl." She'll be back to stretch the bounds of your typical symphony experience, and everyone in that audience will be back to love her for it!
